What is Cryptocurrency Wallet?

Cryptocurrency wallet is a software program that allows you to store public & Private keys and enables interaction with the blockchain which allows you to send, receive and checks the money balance in the wallet. If you want to use cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, Litecoin, etc. Then, you need to have a cryptocurrency wallet.

How cryptocurrency wallet works?

Millions of people over the world are using cryptocurrency wallets to send, receive and check balances but they don't know how it will work. Hereby, I am going to explain how the cryptocurrency wallet works. Unlike your bank account and tradition "pocket" wallet, cryptocurrency wallet won't store money. Hence, the currency is not stored in a single location. It could be anywhere in the physical networks. However, each of the transactional records are stored in the blockchain networks. Each cryptocurrency must contain public and private keys. Private keys are used only for transaction purposes and identify you own the public key. You shouldn't share the private key with anyone. Public keys are used to receive funds. It identifies your account in the networks and can be searched in the ledger. When you send bitcoin to another person, they are signing off the ownership of coins to your wallet address. To spend the coins, your private key stored in the network should match with the public key. Then only the transaction gets completed. There is no exchange of real coins because cryptocurrency is virtual. Each of the transactional details is stored in the blockchain and you can check your balance in the cryptocurrency wallet.

Types of Cryptocurrency wallet:

There are different types of cryptocurrency wallets that provide many ways to use and store your digital money. A cryptocurrency wallet can be categorized into three different types, hardware, software, and paper wallet. Software wallets can be of desktop, mobile and online.

Desktop Wallet:

Desktop wallets are downloadable ones and installed it in your laptop or PC. We can able to access the data in a single computer where we have installed. Desktop wallets offer more security. Once the computer got hacked or attacked by any kind of harmful virus you have a chance to lose all kinds of data that you stored.

Online Wallet:

Online wallet, runs on the cloud and you can access the data from anywhere by using any computing devices like mobile, laptop, Pc, Etc. They are very convenient to access this wallet. And at the same time, all the details which you have stored in the cloud are handled by third parties and also there are chances of doing any kind of vulnerable activities like hacking.

Mobile Wallet:

Mobile wallets run on apps installed on your phone and are very useful because you can be used anywhere including retail shopping. Mobile wallets are smaller & simpler than desktop because of the limited space available on your phone.

Hardware Wallet:

Hardware wallet differs much from software wallets because private keys are stored in hardware devices like USB. Anyway hardware wallets allow to do online transaction, but the data stored in offline which provides more security. Hardware wallets are more compatible with several web interfaces and also support different cryptocurrencies, it depends on what currency you decide to use and also makes the transaction much easier. Users simply plugin that hardware with any internet-enabled devices like Pc, enter a pin, transfer the currency and confirm it. When comes to security purpose, it would be more preferable. Because your money is stored offline and you are just away from dangers.

Paper Wallet:

Paper wallets give high security and very easy to use. The word "paper wallet" refers to the hardcopy or printout of your public and private keys. These keys which we printed are generated from software. Using this wallet is very straightforward. Transferring any kind of cryptocurrency to your paper wallet is accomplished by the transfer of funds from your software wallet to the public address shown on your paper wallet. Alternatively, if you want to withdraw money, all you need to do is transfer funds from your paper wallet to your software wallet.
